Lorraine Desmarais and Colin Hunter at Festi Jazz Mont-Tremblant 2014!
TremblantExpress.com – Guillaume Vincent – May 7, 2014
Five days of jazz with close to 40 free shows in Mont-Tremblant, from August 6 to 10, 2014.
The shows will be presented on two stages located in centre-town (Saint-Jovite) on rue Charbonneau, which will be closed off for the occasion, and in close to 10 other places in Mont-Tremblant. Right at the corner of rue de St-Jovite, the “Jazz Lounge” will accommodate Master Classes, afternoon concerts and improv sessions. Just a few metres away, the stage will host, in the evenings, the concert series Piano Libre and Jazz sous les étoiles (Jazz under the stars).
Acclaimed pianist Lorraine Desmarais will be featured in Jazz sous les étoiles on Saturday, August 9, at 9 p.m. This highly talented jazz pianist and composer is known around the world for her performances solo, in trio, and in Big Bandformat. She has also played with several symphony orchestras around the world.
Lorraine Desmarais first became part of the Canadian scene in 1984, when she walked away with first prize at Montreal’s International Jazz Festival. She now has eleven albums of both original compositions and jazz standards to her credit. Three of these albums, Trio Lorraine Desmarais, Jazz pour Noël and Big Band, have won Félix awards at the ADISQ gala.
Come Fly With Me
Crooner Colin Hunter will interpret standards popularized by Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Wherever he performs, he’s rewarded by thunderous applause. Colin Hunter is, in fact, one of the only jazz singers who can sing Come Fly With Me and really mean it. As founding president of an airline company by day and impassioned crooner by night, this Renaissance man is equally at home on stage and in a business environment. His most recent album, Mostly About You, is a collaboration with jazz pianist Joe Sealy. You can see and hear him here on Thursday, August 7, at 9 p.m., in the seriesJazz sous les étoiles.
Presented over a period of five days in a thoroughly enjoyable atmosphere, Festi jazz Mont-Tremblant has become a major Laurentians event which, year after year, attracts community members, jazz lovers and vacationers.
