Sunwing Travel Group celebrates 10th year in Las Vegas style
The Suburban – Joel Goldenberg – April 20, 2016
Sunwing Travel Group owner Colin Hunter transported an audience of hundreds at the Montreal Casino’s Cabaret back to the glory days of 1950s and ‘60s Las Vegas last Wednesday, as he crooned the best of the Rat Pack and other musical icons.
The concert, Come Fly With Me, was held to celebrate the leisure tour operator’s 10th anniversary in Quebec. Among the dignitaries in attendance was Alan DeSousa, mayor of St. Laurent, where Sunwing’s Quebec office is located.
Hunter, a devotee of the music of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole and Tony Bennett, has performed at venues like the Rialto and Toronto’s Winter Garden Theatre. At last week’s performance, he tackled one standard after another with aplomb — I’ve Got You Under My Skin, You Make Me Feel So Young, New York, New York, My Way, It Had To Be You, I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Frankie Valli’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and numerous others.
Hunter performs in a voice uncannily like that of Sinatra’s, which even translated well to the songs of the other performers of the era. He was accompanied by the superb musicians of the Montreal All City Big Band, and also performed a duet with chanteuse Rita Tabbakh singing the Nat King Cole/Natalie Cole version of Nat’s Unforgettable. And to complete the Las Vegas atmosphere, Hunter was joined on stage for several songs by six female dancers in elaborate costumes.
